Displays mit berührungsempfindlicher Oberfläche haben Einzug in unser tägliches Leben genommen. Ob im Smartphone, im Navigationsgerät, beim Kopierer oder beim Geldautomaten – täglich nutzt man bewusst oder unbewusst ein Display mit einer sensitiven Oberfläche, um ein Computersystem zu steuern. Die Technologie wird seit dem Aufkommen der ersten Smartphones bzw. iPhones kommerziell eingesetzt. Man unterscheidet zwischen der resistiven und der kapazitiven Technologie.
